Conference interpreter during the 15th International Conference on University Service-Learning

On 25, 26 and 27 January, the 11th National and 15th International Congress on University Service-Learning took place in the wonderful setting of the Casa de Convalescència at the Hospital de Sant Pau in Barcelona.
A decade after the introduction of the concept of service learning in higher education, experts from the 8 Catalan public universities met for three days to debate the impact of service learning around three very specific axes:

  • The impact on institutions and their communities
  • The impact on students
  • The impact on teachers and the university

The Silvia Palá Intérpretes team provided simultaneous interpreting services to facilitate communication between all the participants.

Conference interpreter during the presentation of the America’s Cup 2024 in Barcelona

El Círculo Ecuestre is a prestigious business club in Barcelona.

Founded in 1856, the club organises many events, professional and cultural meetings throughout the year.

Last Monday I collaborated with this institution by translating one of the living legends of my sport, sailing.

El Círculo organised a lunch-colloquium to present the America’s Cup, which will be held in Barcelona over three months in 2024.

Grant Dalton, head of Emirates Team New Zealand (winner of the last edition and organiser), explained the characteristics of this sporting event and the important economic impact and prestige that the holding of the preliminary races between the challenging teams and the final races, where the winning challenger challenges the current holder of the Cup, Emirates Team New Zealand, will have on our city.

This sporting event is the third largest sporting competition in the world, after the Olympic Games and the football World Cup.

Dalton, who approached before the start of the event to make sure that his thick Australian accent was understood, conveyed confidence and security, said he was in love with Barcelona and the possibilities it offers for bringing sailing to the general public, as the regattas can be held on a stretch of sea close to the coast, from the Olympic Port to the mouth of Port Vell.

Conference interpreter at the 9th edition of Talking Galleries Barcelona

Silvia Palá Intérpretes had the pleasure of providing simultaneous interpreting services for the 9th edition of Talking Galleries, Edition 2022, held on 3 and 4 October in Barcelona.

Talking Galleries is the big think tank on contemporary art galleries.

With a two-day programme of debates, talks and networking, the Barcelona Symposium has brought together national and international art professionals in a framework that promotes exchange and analysis of art galleries.

The 2022 edition marked the return of Talking Galleries’ flagship event to its city of origin, after a two-year break due to the pandemic, and sought to address the new challenges and concerns that have emerged on the art agenda since the previous meeting in early 2020.

Topics of discussion included the impact of NFTs on the market, inclusive narratives in the art world, the rise of Paris as an art centre, the relationship between art fairs and biennials, gallery practices in the secondary market, and innovative projects between art and technology, among other relevant current issues in the sector.
